This season we’re particularly enjoy using our longer necklaces and embellished pendants to contrast the clean lines of suited dresses. Our earrings are particularly statement items too – wear with dramatic evening gowns and simple necklines to give a powerful but classic evening look.

My King’s Road – Bola Ogundipe

This month marks five years since the opening of luxury bespoke jewellery boutique Mijola Daniel on 309A King’s Road – founded by design lover and jewellery and fabric specialist, Bola Ogundipe. Each piece of Bola’s hand-crafted jewellery is inspired by nature, ethically produced and made with organic materials sourced from around the world. What’s the story behind your brand and business?
After I had my third child I wanted to do something which would give me flexibility. Since I love designing and mixing colours and had always had a vision to bring my cultural influence to the western world, I decided to start my own collection. I started from home and had concessions in a few boutiques in Richmond and Chiswick. I later had a vivid vision of owning my own boutique hence the birth of Mijola Daniel, which is my name plus my husband’s and children’s names all rolled together.

As the business developed I noticed that shoppers were interested in our collection of hand woven scarves from Africa. I also noticed that most of the high-end brands like Prada, Gucci and Chanel were mixing African fabrics in their collection so I knew there was a market for African fabrics. We are currently designing our own collection of women’s bags and we project that the grand launch will be early next year. So watch this space!

What do you love about King’s Road?
I love the Kings road for its diverse, mixed market and people. It has got lots of young and trendy shops as well as classic shops for mid-age shoppers. It is lively and trendy. It is also has many eclectic eating outlets.

What are your favourite places to shop on King’s Road?
My shop off course! I mostly shop in Peter Jones as it has all I need under one roof. I also like French sole for shoes as they stock my size, which is very hard to find.

Can you reveal any famous customers who have been into your shop?
I am not allowed to tell you but I can say she was an X Factor winner.

Where do you like to eat out locally?
When I first opened the shop it was the noodle bar next door and Bluebird opposite the shop. I have since discovered Frantonios for authentic Italian and the Cadogan Arms for nice fish. I also go to Chutney Mary for avant-garde Indian.

What are the must-have products in your shop at the moment?
Must have products in the shop are our collection of stackable rings. They are for every woman as you can pick your stones and stack as you like.

Which are your favourites?
My favourites are long necklaces with semi precious stones and metal. We also have some new lariats, which are quite versatile.

What are your shop neighbours like?
Friendly. We all work as a team and help each other out. We refer clients to one another and look out for each other.

Three things you can’t live without.
My bible, my BlackBerry and my husband and children.

Who are you favourite local personalities?
Lorraine Pascale. I bump into her every so often.

What have you learned and what would you do differently?
What I would do differently is make business decisions with a rational mind and not with my emotions. I would spend more time mulling over issues rather than make a business commitment there and then. I have certainly learnt to be a fighter. Be resilient and never throw in the towel. Also, never say never. If you can think it, you can do it.
